Our first excavation area seems to have found a building or at least a thick layer of rubble from a building. I may go out and have a look at it today after the rain, but it looks like we may be on top of a foundation, and hence it might already be time to abandon Area 1.
Nothing exciting at all. We removed the topsoil, which was around 9cm thick, and then proceeded to clear a dense layer of compacted clay, which was another 10cm. We have no idea how thick this layer is, and we may not have time to really get into it too far. Thanks to our student workers!
